If you visit our worship on Sunday Morning...
~ Hosts & Hostesses will greet you when you enter and provide you with a temporary name tag. They can also direct you to the nursery, or restrooms if you wish.
~ You will be directed toward the sanctuary, where an usher will hand you a worship bulletin. The bulletin lists the order of service, number of the hymns and scripture references. Our worship service lasts approximately one hour. You do not have to participate in any aspect of the worship if you do not want to. You can be a spectator if you wish.
~ In the nursery are qualified individuals to watch your children ages infant to under 3 years. They plan activities for the children, and give them a snack of juice and graham crackers. Feel free to leave your children there if you wish. (Note that there are activities for older children mentioned later.)
~ The order in which the following activities happen may vary each week, but you will be able to follow along because of the order of worship in the worship bulletin. Except for our pastors, the people in worship are volunteers who are members and active participants of our church.
ANNOUNCEMENTS and REGISTRATION PAD
- The worship leader will give the latest announcements and concerns for prayer. A microphone will be available for congregational sharing of joys, concerns and possibly announcements. During this time, all are asked to sign their names, address and phone numbers (we'd be happy for you do to this if you wish) in a registration pad that is passed down each row. As it is returned to the aisle, you may look to see who else is seated in your row.PRELUDE
- This is a time to quiet our minds and our hearts while the organ plays. This is actually the beginning of the worship time and provides an opportunity to meditate on the stained glass windows, on the worship center, on the reading on the back of the bulletin, or a section of the Bible.PRAYER
- There will be one or more prayers during the service. The people leading them will read a prepared prayer or pray spontaneously. Everyone in the service usually quietly bows their heads and closes their eyes while the prayer is being spoken.MUSIC
- Several songs will be sung by the entire congregation. You are welcome to sing. The worship leader will announce the number of the hymn, but it is also listed in the bulletin. [The dark blue hymn book and black Bible is located in the base of the pew in front of you.] We use a piano and organ to accompany our hymns. There is usually an anthem by the choir or special music by a vocalist, an instrumentalist or group of musicians.OFFERING -
During offering time, the organ will play, and the ushers will move through the sanctuary, row by row, and pass the offering plates. Our tithes and gifts are used to support church programs, to maintain our church facility and grounds, to support local community service agencies, and staff salaries. Equally important is the support of our WA-Oregon District and denominational agencies which help us carry on the mission of the church and the work of Christ throughout out community and world.CHILDREN'S TIME
- This is a time that our children really look forward to. It's for any children who are attending the worship service. All of the children will go to the front of the sanctuary and sit on the front steps while a pastor or member of our church either tells a story, performs a skit, or explains a certain subject to the children in a way the children can understand. This usually lasts about 5-10 minutes. When it is over, the children will be dismissed to their classes.SCRIPTURE -
A selection or selections from the New Testament and/or the Old Testament are read as part of the worship service. Usually this is the basis for the sermon which follows.SERMON
- The sermon is given by our pastor, a guest, or a member of the congregation. It usually lasts 15-20 minutes. The sermon title is listed in the bulletin. During this time, feel free to relax, enjoy and absorb the message. If the pastor is away for a Sunday, a guest brings the message.BENEDICTION
- The words spoken send the congregation out into the world and the daily lives we face with assurance of God’s love and with the challenges of being Christ’s people throughout the coming week.COFFEE HOUR -
Please come and join us after the service downstairs in the social hall for coffee, tea and goodies. We would love to meet you.
